Emerson Middle School sixth grader Carly Swanson heard about the Park Ridge Cultural Arts Council scholarship opportunity from her band teacher at the Niles school, Ms. Hestad.

Swanson had her heart set on singing soprano at Virtuoso Performing Arts Musical Theater Camp, but that meant tuition had to be paid. Swanson was one of 17 young people chosen to receive this scholarship dedicated to the arts. She and her parents Paul and Nancy are very pleased for this opportunity.

Swanson auditioned for and was cast in the part of Ariel at Virtuoso Performing Arts Studio’s summer production of “The Little Mermaid.”

When Swanson becomes a freshman at Maine South, she would love to perform in school musicals and be active in the drama program.

As for the future, she wants to take the road toward Broadway, for her dream is to sing, act and dance.

“I am very determined to reach my goal,” she said. “I’m going to try as hard as I can and make the best out of what I have and what I learn.”
